The fatal house explosion in Crescent on Tuesday morning marks the third in Western Pennsylvania since August.

Emergency crews responded to the scene just before 9 a.m. at the 1400 block of Riverview Road,.

The Crescent explosion is exactly seven months after the Aug. 12 house explosion in Plum’s Rustic Ridge neighborhood that resulted in six deaths.

The Plum explosion rocked the quiet neighborhood of about 200 homes just before 10:30 a.m. on a Saturday, sending debris flying blocks away. In addition to the three homes destroyed, authorities said that 10 other homes sustained heavy damage. Six people were killed and a total of 13 families were displaced.

Investigators have yet to say how or why it happened.

Tuesday’s explosion is also exactly three months after the Dec. 12 cottage explosion on a Sewickley Heights estate that sent one person to the hospital.

According to Aleppo fire Chief Bill Davis Jr., a plumber was working in the cottage at 543 Backbone Road in Sewickley Heights when the explosion occurred. He was taken to a local hospital by Valley EMS.

The explosion destroyed the cottage. The main house on the property, a 7,100-square-foot mansion that sits about 500 feet away from the cottage, was not affected, Davis said.

A husband and wife in the mansion at the time of the explosion were not hurt.
