Former NFL player to speak at Catholic men’s conference

Mike McCoy, an all-pro defensive tackle for the Green Bay Packers in the 1970s and the product of a Catholic education in Erie, will be the featured speaker for the first-ever Diocese of Greensburg Catholic men’s conference on March 30.
“The Well: Come and Be Renewed” men’s conference will explore the theme “What Are You Looking For?” and will feature McCoy, as well as 24 workshops in three separate time blocks.
The conference at Greensburg Central Catholic begins at 7:30 a.m. March 30 with registration and a continental breakfast. The opening prayer will be at 8 a.m., followed by McCoy’s talk at 8:35 a.m.
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will begin at 9:45 a.m., and the sacrament of reconciliation (confession) will be available from 9:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. The three workshop sessions will be held from 10:55 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
The conference closes with Mass celebrated by Greensburg Bishop Edward C. Malesic at 2:30 p.m.
“It will be a unique conference, with more than 20 speakers and topics the men can choose from in the three sessions. There should be something for everyone,” said organizer Jim Pencola.
McCoy, 70, a native of Erie and an alumnus of Notre Dame, played for the Packers from 1970-1976 and finished his football career with the Detroit Lions in 1980. He is president of Mike McCoy Ministries.
Some of the workshop themes will be ”Dating, Courtship and Marriage,” ”Faith in Recovery: Winning Against Addiction,” ”Sacrificial Love: Living the Vocation of Husband and Father” and “How Men Can Help Their Children and Grandchildren Find Their Way Back to the Faith.”
Registration is $25 in advance, $40 at the door and includes breakfast and lunch. Registration is open at www.dioceseofgreensburg.org/THEWELL.
