State police believe a 78-year-old Mt. Pleasant man was impaired by alcohol when he crashed into a trooper’s patrol car parked along the berm during a traffic stop on Route 119 in Fayette County.

The trooperhad pulled over a Chevrolet Trax over March 8 at 7:40 p.m. for traffic violations on Route 119 north in Bullskin. Police said in a news release issued Wednesday that the trooper was in a Dodge Charger marked patrol car working on his laptop when a Chevrolet Cruze driven by the Mt. Pleasant man crashed into the driver’s side.

The car was not involved in the original traffic stop, police said, and had been driving in the right lane prior to the crash. The trooper may have been hurt, according to the news release.

Neither the Chevrolet Cruze’s driver nor his 78-year-old female passenger were hurt, police said. Charges against the driver had not been filed.
