Giant Eagle stores opening earlier for seniors during coronavirus pandemic

All Giant Eagle and Market District supermarkets will open an hour early on select days for customers who are 60 and older, disabled or immune-compromised, the company announced Thursday.
Beginning Monday, the grocery chain said it will open its doors at 6 a.m. Monday through Wednesday. The idea is to make older shoppers feel comfortable if they are concerned about being exposed to coronavirus.
While Giant Eagle employees will not be checking IDs for age confirmation, the company is asking others to respect the policy.
“We ask that all customers help us by respecting these hours for the health and well-being of our community during this time,” said Giant Eagle spokesperson Dan Donovan.
After the first hour, all stores will return to current operating hours of 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
All stores will be sanitized and shelves restocked when supermarkets are closed, the company said.
