Gloomy week giving way to sunshine, warmer temperatures in Pittsburgh area

Mother Nature is bringing nicer weather to Western Pennsylvania, just in time for the weekend.

“Anything’s got to be better than what we’ve had the past few days,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Lee Hendricks. “We’ve had a series of two upper-level low-pressure systems that sat over Ontario and just moved very slowly.”

That has led to an overcast, rainy and cold week in the Pittsburgh area.

“Typically the normal high temperatures this time of year are around 69 degrees with a normal low around 47,” Hendricks said. “Of course yesterday, we had a high of 47 and a low of 36 (degrees).”

That is set to change starting Friday.

“The system that’s been plaguing us this week is finally starting to move northeast, and it’ll bring a few lingering showers into (Thursday) evening,” Hendricks said. “Then Friday after some morning fog, it’s going to get up into the 60s.”

Saturday’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and temperatures topping 70 degrees, and Hendricks said Sunday’s high could reach the mid-70s.

“Mother Nature finally is giving us some good weather, and it’s coinciding with the weekend for once instead of being on a Monday or a Tuesday,” he said.
