A two-car crash Wednesday morning in Indiana County killed one motorist and injured two others.

State police said a woman who was driving a Volkswagen sedan was pronounced dead at the scene near Shelocta by Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman. She was identified as Erma Karen Devivo, 80, of Armstrong Township.

Two Shelocta residents who were in the other car, a four-door Honda, were flown by medical helicopter to separate Pittsburgh hospitals. A 26-year-old woman who was driving was taken to Allegheny General Hospital while an infant girl, who was secured in a child safety seat in the car’s rear seat, was taken to UPMC Children’s Hospital, police said.

Details of their conditions weren’t immediately available.

The crash occurred at about 11 a.m. on Route 422, just west of North Ridge Road in Armstrong Township. Police said Devivo pulled out of her driveway onto the highway, was struck by the Honda and crashed into a guide rail.

Both cars were towed.

An ongoing investigation of the crash includes state police crash reconstruction specialists.

Firefighters from Elderton and Indiana, Citizens’ Ambulance Service and a PennDOT crew also responded.
