Everybody knows that the cookie is always the best part of a bagged lunch.

So, when one inmate wouldn’t give his up to another inmate, you can imagine what happened next.

Or maybe you can’t.

An Indiana County inmate, who had already handed over his sandwich, refused to part with a banana and cookie in his lunch Friday and that caused another inmate to attack him inside a holding cell of the county courthouse, police said.

Ryshawn Crawford, 18, of Philadelphia, was charged by borough police with assault on a prisoner, harassment, simple assault and strangulation in connection with the fight that occurred about, well, lunchtime. The fight was broken up by sheriff’s deputies.

Crawford, an inmate at nearby SCI Pine Grove, is accused of assaulting Indiana County Jail inmate David Bratcher, 35, of Alverda.

According to borough Officer Leroy Anderson Jr., Bratcher brought a bagged lunch into the holding cell from the county jail where he is incarcerated on a DUI-related charge. Anderson said Crawford wanted the lunch and Bratcher gave him the sandwich. Anderson said Crawford assaulted Bratcher after he refused to give Crawford the cookie and banana.

Crawford is serving a five-year state prison sentence after a 2018 conviction for robbery conspiracy in Upper Darby, Delaware County. He was at the courthouse in Indiana on two unrelated prisoner harassment complaints at the state prison earlier this year.

Bratcher did not require medical attention.

A preliminary hearing will be scheduled before Indiana County District Judge Guy Haberl.
