Not only is it warm, it’s windy.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory in effect until midnight tonight for portions of western Pennsylvania, with western winds of 15-25 mph and gusts up to 50 mph.
Emergency officials had steady reports of downed trees — and the occasional, accompanying downed wires — throughout the late morning and afternoon.
West Penn Power officials reported 33,000 customers across its service area were experiencing power outages as of 6 p.m. on Saturday, mostly small pockets of less than 20 customers. The largest was a group of between 100-500 in the Canonsburg area, southwest of Pittsburgh.
The outages include more than 900 customers in Allegheny County, nearly 900 in Armstrong, over 2,800 in Butler and almost 9,000 in Westmoreland County.
Duquesne Light reported just over 8,000 customers without power in its service area, also limited to small groups with the exception of about 500 customers in the North Versailles area.
Downed trees and power lines were reported across the area, spurring power outages. A high number of power outages were reported in Penn Hills, Plum and North Hills, according to Duquesne Light.
Duquesne Light said their crews would work around the clock to restore power as quickly as possible.
Radar shows another strong line of storms and rain, stretching beyond Moundsville, W.Va., all the way up past Oil City, headed toward the region around 2:45 p.m.
