Western Pennsylvania residents waking up from a tryptophan-induced turkey coma likely saw a light dusting of snow on the lawn Friday. That was the first of several small patches of snow expected to move through the region over the weekend.
“Across northwest Pennsylvania, more toward Erie and Crawford counties, they’re expecting several inches,” said Bill Modzelewski, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. “But outside the I-80 corridor, where they may get a little bit, we’re not likely to see a whole lot today.”
Saturday’s forecast calls for mostly sunny weather and a high of 38 degrees. The evening will bring a 70% chance of precipitation, a mix of rain and snow depending on the location.
“I think for our area, (Saturday) night should be mainly snow, with maybe a little rain that mixes in to the south,” Modzelewski said. “We’ll have a couple areas of snow that’ll start to move through tomorrow night.”
The forecast calls for between a tenth- and a quarter-inch of snow on Saturday, with the same minimal amounts on Sunday.
Monday is forecast to be partly sunny with 38 as the high once again, and a 40% chance of rain and snow showers before 9 p.m., with another round switching to strictly snow through 1 a.m. Tuesday morning.
The 2021 Winter Outlook from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association predicts wetter-than-average conditions in the Ohio Valley, which includes southwestern Pennsylvania. Average or above average temperatures are expected in the region.
