Local Jewish leaders reviewing synagogue security in wake of Hamas attack on Israel

An off-duty Pittsburgh Police officer was stationed outside the Shaare Torah Congregation on Murray Avenue on Sunday morning while worshipers arrived for services for the Simchat Torah holiday. He said security personnel from the Jewish Federation also will be patrolling the area during Sunday night’s holiday service.

The police chief for the Yeshiva School in Squirrel Hill was stationed at the entrance of the Congregation Poale Zedeck on Phillips Avenue on Sunday. She or another police officer provide security for the synagogue whenever congregants gather to worship or for special events.

A Carnegie Mellon University police cruiser with an officer inside was stationed in the parking lot at the Rodef Shalom Congregation on Fifth Avenue in Oakland on Sunday morning. The director of community security for the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh said after the attack on Israel by Hamas terrorists they contacted local and federal law enforcement to ensure the safety of local synagogues.
