A motorist was fatally injured when he was thrown from his car following a collision early Saturday in Indiana County.

Hunter Lewis McCloskey, 25, of Buffington Township, was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene in Pine Township, according to Indiana County Coroner Jerry L. Overman Jr. A ruling on the cause of death was pending on Sunday.

According to reports by Overman and state police, McCloskey was headed west on Route 422 at about 1 a.m. when he attempted to turn left onto Red Mill Road. His Subaru WRX was struck by a Ram pickup truck that was traveling west behind him.

The Subaru began to spin, striking some small boulders and a utility pole, and McCloskey was ejected.

It wasn’t clear if the driver of the Ram — Reed Tantlinger, 22, of Homer City — was injured or if he might face charges.

Police are continuing their investigation of the crash.
