Military charity collects 'surf-and-turf' donations for troops overseas
Pittsburgh-area charity Military Connections is looking to serve a little surf-and-turf to troops overseas.
But it’s not the kind you might think.
Because lobster and steak are a bit pricey to ship internationally, the nonprofit is collecting donations of Swedish Fish and beef jerky.
“We receive a lot of requests for beef jerky,” said founder Summer Tissue. “While I was thinking about a social media post for beef jerky, there was an Outback Steakhouse commercial featuring their surf-and-turf special. I thought it would be something fun and different for this time of year.”
An Amazon.com link allows donors to purchase items and ship them directly to Military Connections in Penn Hills.
Donations, which will be packaged and shipped between now and the end of August, can also be dropped off at Military Connections, 312 Auburn St. in Penn Hills, or at Northwest Savings Bank, 6294 Library Road in Bethel Park.
