2 women injured by gunfire in Sheradan

Two women suffered non-fatal gunshot wounds Sunday evening in Sheraden.

Pittsburgh police from the Zone 6 station responded to a three-round Shotspotter alert in the 3100 block of Ashlyn Street at 5:40 p.m., according Pittsburgh Public Safety spokeswoman.

First responders transported one of the women to a local hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the arm.

The other woman was treated at the scene after her arm was grazed by a bullet.

Police said nobody has been arrested in connection with the shooting.


Outbound Parkway East ramp to close nightly through December

The Parkway East’s outbound Forbes Avenue/Oakland exit will be closed nightly through late December for repairs, PennDOT announced.

Beginning today, the ramp will be shut down from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. overnight.

The following detour will be in place when the ramp is closed:

• Pass the closed ramp and continue through the Squirrel Hill Tunnel.

• Take the Edgewood/Swissvale Exit and bear right toward Swissvale.

• Make a left onto Monongahela Avenue then a left onto South Braddock Avenue.

• Take the ramp toward 376 West onto the Parkway and exit the ramp to North 885 Oakland to Bates Street.

• Turn left onto Boulevard of the Allies then right onto Craft Avenue.


Police search for teens who fled Westmoreland County detention center

State police are searching for two teens who escaped Friday from a detention facility in Westmoreland County.

Police said staff at the Outside Inn School along Fort Palmer Road were seen getting into a vehicle that left the school and headed toward the New Florence area.

One of the teens is a 17-year-old from Ford City and the other is a 15-year-old from Aliquippa.

They were both last seen wearing blue sweatshirts, grey sweatpants and white shoes.


Police unit in South Side issues 82 citations, arrest 4

The Pittsburgh police unit patrolling the entertainment district in the city’s South Side neighborhood issued 30 citations over the weekend for disorderly conduct, public urination and drinking or smoking marijuana in public.

The special unit operating Thursday through Sunday also arrested four people and issued 47 parking tickets, five traffic citations and towed eight vehicles that were illegally parked, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety.

One of those arrested was charged with marijuana possession, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and having a false ID.

Police also charged a person with having a fake ID, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. Arrests also were made for defiant trespass and causing an accident, police said.
