Here are some of the latest news items from this morning, Monday, Oct. 14:

Suspects arrested in Scottdale

Two people accused in an incident in Scottdale were arrested Sunday in Aliquippa.

Officers in Aliquippa were notified by Westmoreland County sheriff’s deputies around 4:30 p.m. that a Dodge Charger connected to the suspects was seen on a license plate reader there. Police found the car on Sheffield Avenue in Aliquippa and conducted a traffic stop on a bridge near 16th Street.

A man who got out of the car was identified as Westley Matthews, 43, of Connellsville, and the driver was identified as Bobbi Jo Hutchinson, 41, of Scottdale, according to Aliquippa police. Both were taken into custody.

Charges of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and flight to avoid apprehension were filed against Matthews in connection with a Friday incident in Scottdale. Hutchinson is charged in the same incident with conspiracy, hindering apprehension and related offenses. They were awaiting arraignment.

Pittsburgh man arrested after dirt bike pursuit

A Pittsburgh man posted bail over the weekend after state police said they pursued him along West Carson Street on the South Side.

Troopers said they saw Austin J. Wagner, 19, driving a black dirt bike, which did not have a registration, recklessly at 5:30 p.m. Friday and attempted a traffic stop. Wagner fled west and eventually hopped off the bike and fled on foot, police said.

He was apprehended on the West End Bridge at the West End Circle.

Wagner was charged with fleeing from police, evading detention on foot and several summary violations. He was released from the Allegheny County Jail on Saturday after posting $100 bail.

Potential pathogens found in Western Allegheny water supply

Customers of the Western Allegheny County Municipal Authority are being alerted of potential pathogens in their drinking water. The authority said in a letter to customers that it violated a requirement to check for coliform bacteria.

The letter was obtained by Trib news partner WTAE. The authority serves North Fayette.

The bacteria was detected twice in the past year in the distribution system. The authority said it failed to do an assessment of the water treatment system, but said it “is committed to correcting the deficiency to eliminate the potential threat of contamination.”

The authority believes the contamination is connected to defective testing bottles, according to the letter.
