Here are a few morning news items from across the region for Tuesday, April 1, 2025:

Burglary reported at Bloomfield Dollar General

Pittsburgh police said Tuesday morning they are investigating a burglary at a Dollar General store in the city’s Bloomfield neighborhood.

Someone threw a rock through a window to get inside the Centre Avenue building and steal tobacco products, police said.

The suspect fled on foot. Detectives were looking for video surveillance and other evidence at the store.

Police report shots fired into Clairton home

No one was seriously injured when gunshots were fired into a Clairton home, according to Allegheny County Police.

Authorities were notified around 11:30 p.m. Monday and found broken glass. A person in the house had a minor injury from the glass, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the county police tip line at 1-833-255-8477 (ALL-TIPS).

Police say Pitcairn man had drugs, stolen gun in vehicle

A Pitcairn man was arraigned Monday in connection with drugs and guns that were found in his vehicle while Pittsburgh police were investigating reports of drag racing last month.

William Bey, 23, is charged with receiving stolen property, drug possession and related offenses.

During the drag racing investigation March 14 on 48th Street in Lawrenceville, police said they searched Bey’s vehicle and reported finding marijuana and a stolen gun. He is free on nonmonetary bail.

Police seek scammer in Washington County

State police in Washington County are seeking help from the public to identify a person who is suspected of scamming residents out of $15,000. Troopers said the man made threats of fraudulent payments for iPhones to get the money.

Police released two photographs Monday — one of the man in a convenience store and a second of his car.

Anyone with information on his identity is asked to call 724-223-5200.

PennDOT looking for feedback

PennDOT is seeking feedback on its performance over the winter.

A 16-question online survey is open through April 28 asking about respondent’s timeline expectations for roads to be cleared, how they rank snow-removal priorities, how they get information about roads and how they rate PennDOT’s winter work. Responses are anonymous.

“Pennsylvania is finishing a very active winter-weather season and I’m proud of how the PennDOT team worked — often around the clock —to keep roads safe and passable,” agency Secretary Mike Carroll said in a statement. “Public feedback through this survey helps us enhance public information as well as review perceptions and knowledge of our operations.”

Allegheny County police dog retires

A police dog that worked for seven years with the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Department has retired.

Zeke was a bomb detection dog and he and his partner Deputy Pete Perrier responded to calls in eight counties since 2018, according to department spokesperson Mike Manko. Zeke helped to recover several weapons during his searches.
