Here are some of the latest news items from this morning, Tuesday, May 9, 2023:

No injuries in fire at Robinson restaurant

A fire broke out Tuesday morning at the Red Robin in Robinson.

The blaze was reported just before 3:30 a.m. at the restaurant along Settlers Ridge Center Drive, according to an Allegheny County 911 dispatch supervisor.

Flames were seen coming from the building’s roof, according to East Carnegie Fire Department, among area firefighters that responded to the two-alarm fire.

Restaurant workers told Tribune-Review news partner WPXI that no one was injured when gas spilled and caught fire as gas was being changed on a grill. The fire was quickly brought under control, according to the new station.

It wasn’t clear how extensively the business was damaged or how its operations were affected.

Sewage problems close Scott eatery

A Long John Silver’s restaurant in Scott Township has been closed by the Allegheny County Health Department, which cited an “imminent health hazard created by a sewage system failure.”

The department posted an alert about the problem on Friday.

A report from an inspection Friday found a “severe sewage odor,” sewage backup and raw sewage flowing from the rear of the restaurant into a stormwater drain. Inspectors said the sewage issue appeared to be chronic and noted the restaurant was awaiting a cost estimate to repair the sewage system.

Police in Beaver County discover dog’s remains in bag

State police in Beaver County are investigating an incident of cruelty to animals after discovering the remains of a dog Monday in Darlington Township.

Police said troopers found the partially decomposed dog inside a large black trash bag after checking into a rotting odor in the 800 block of Cannelton Road. The dog was mostly white in color and appeared to have been dead “for quite some time,” police said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact state police at 724-773-7400.
