Fire breaks out at former historic Pittsburgh school

The former Beltzhoover Elementary School was hit with a blaze Tuesday night, the second fire to hit the old school building in just a matter of days.

TribLive news partner WTAE reports that Pittsburgh firefighters responded to the building on Cedarhurst Street around 8 p.m.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, according to WTAE.

The building is vacant and no injuries were reported.

First responders had been called to the building for another fire on Saturday morning.

Beltzhoover Elementary School was closed in 2004. Pittsburgh Public School district sold the building in 2017.

The former school building is more than 100 years old and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Latest South Side arrests, citations report

A busy weekend in Pittsburgh was also busy for city police on the South Side.

Public Safety officials tallied dozens of citations, three arrests, and recovered a firearm between May 29 and June 2 in the neighborhood.

South Side Entertainment Patrol officers made arrests for disorderly conduct and evading on foot and illegal possession of a concealed firearm, police said.
