A Sunday afternoon crash involving four vehicles on Interstate 70 in South Strabane sent seven motorists to area hospitals.

Four patients were flown by medical helicopter as a result of the wreck at about 2 p.m. in the area where Interstate 79 North merges with I-70 West in Washington County. Three others were taken by ambulance to UPMC Washington Hospital, according to South Strabane Township emergency officials.

Details of the patients’ conditions and how the wreck occurred weren’t immediately available.

Pennsylvania Turnpike construction closes Cranberry ramp

Reconstruction of the Cranberry interchange on the Pennsylvania Turnpike is triggering closure of a ramp beginning Monday.

Motorists who normally would use the ramp from Route 19 South to head west on the turnpike will follow a detour through Oct. 24, according to turnpike officials.

The detour through the interchange takes drivers a short distance east of Route 19 before looping west again to access the turnpike.
