Nearly 3 dozen cats rescued from Westmoreland home

Members of three local animal shelters rescued about 35 cats from a Westmoreland County home on Monday where more than 50 were discovered in unsanitary conditions.

Officials from Ninth Life Rescue Center in Hunker said a group of seven ill cats were brought to their center last week, and staff joined with Irwin’s All But Furgotten and West Newton’s As They Come Animal Rescue in order to bring the other cats in for care.

Ninth Life staff said several cats were already deceased when they arrived.

Staff at All But Furgotten said the animals were being kept in “horrific” conditions and living in their own waste.

Rare gold Lego piece found at Pa. Goodwill store

Staff at the DuBois Goodwill were looking through donations when they came across a strange-looking Lego piece.

It was a mask from the company’s Bionicle set. But as they eventually discovered, it was made of 14-karat gold.

According Lego fan site BrickFanatics, it’s likely that the gold piece, called the Bionicle Gold Hau Mask, was a gift to Lego employees to celebrate the launch of the Bionicle product line.

It was previously up for auction and reached a price of $33,000, but is being auctioned again after the winning bidder failed to complete the purchase.
