Trader Joe’s recalls cookies for possible rocks
Trader Joe’s warned customers over the weekend that some cookies purchased from the store might contain an unpleasant surprise: rocks.
The grocery store, which has three locations in the Pittsburgh region, announced a recall Friday for two types of cookies, Trader Joe’s Almond Windmill Cookies (SKU# 98744) and Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Chunk and Almond Cookies (SKU# 82752).
All potentially affected products have been removed from stores and destroyed, Trader Joe’s said in a statement.
If customers have any of the products, with sell by dates between Oct. 19 and Oct. 21 for the windmill cookies and Oct. 17 and Oct. 21 for the dark chocolate cookies, they are encouraged to throw them out or return them to a Trader Joe’s location for a refund.

Office cleaners to march through Downtown Pittsburgh
Office cleaners who are members of the 32BJ SEIU union plan to march with state representatives at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday in Downtown Pittsburgh to highlight the importance of their work.
According to a statement from the union, the march comes during a campaign for a new labor contract. Members of Unite HERE Local 57, who work at Downtown hotels, also will be marching. The current four-year 32BJ labor agreements expire on Oct. 31 and cover 1,200 office cleaners in Pittsburgh.
Several Pittsburgh City Council members and other state officials are scheduled to be present.
The march will end at the City-County Building.
Free throw contest for charity
A benefit free throw contest is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Allegheny County Courthouse courtyard in Downtown Pittsburgh.
Held annually, the Kane Foundation Free Throw Contest raises money for Allegheny County’s Kane Community Living Centers.
County departments will compete against each other for bragging rights and a trophy for the department whose team makes the most free throws and the department that raises the most money.
The Kane Foundation uses private money to enhance the quality of life of residents and their families. All donations are devoted to gifts and enhancements for the Kane Centers and residents.
