Authorities have not released the identity of a driver of a dirt bike who was killed Thursday after his motorcycle left the roadway and struck a guardrail in North Strabane in Washington County.

State police in Washington said the accident occurred along Interstate 79 North by the North Strabane exit when the driver attempted to leave the highway about 8:21 p.m.

“The driver lost control of his bike and struck the end cap of the guide rail causing a fatal crash,” state police said in a news release.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:06 p.m., according to Washington County Coroner Timothy Warco.

Warco’s office reported the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet. A ruling on the cause and manner of death are pending.
