Murrysville, Scott, Mt. Lebanon to host glass recycling events

Responding to a growing list of haulers who no longer accept glass in curbside recycling containers, the Pennsylvania Resources Council will host a pop-up glass collection event in Murrysville this month.

Earlier this year, residents in communities across the region began seeking alternatives after being informed the market for glass is contracting and haulers will no longer accept glass for recycling.

Resources Council Managing Director Justin Stockdale, however, said his group has found significant demand for glass recyclables in the regional and national market place.

“Based on overwhelming demand from residents, local governments and the glass industry, PRC is providing an alternative for glass recycling. This program will ensure that glass is not trash, even if it can no longer be put out for curbside recycling in numerous municipalities due to recent changes in waste haulers’ contracts,” Stockdale said.

Council volunteers will be collecting glass from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.Oct. 26 at Veterans Field on Sardis Road.

Council volunteers will accept all colors of glass bottles, jars and jugs at the events. It is suggested glass be loosely packed in plastic bins or cardboard boxes.
