As restaurants and local businesses struggle under recent closures, some national chains took to social media in an attempt to encourage dine-out options.

Tuesday has been dubbed “The Great American Takeout” by more than 100 restaurant companies in the United States.

Consumers are being asked to order at least one takeout meal today and share with the hashtag, #thegreatamericantakeout, to support establishments during the covid-19 pandemic. Participants include both national chains and local places.

Gov. Tom Wolf closed all bars and restaurants for dine-in options last week. On Monday, he issued a stay-at-home order for seven counties, including Allegheny County, asking residents to stay in their homes unless “someone’s life depends on your leaving.”
