Severe thunderstorms heading into region, possible hail

National Weather Service meteorologists are calling for storms on Wednesday afternoon throughout the Pittsburgh region.

A spate of hot weather will once again be interrupted by rain, as National Weather Service meteorologists call for scattered severe thunderstorms across the area on Wednesday afternoon.

A hazardous weather outlook issued early Wednesday morning calls for severe storms this afternoon and early evening with a crossing cold front.

Damaging winds are expected to be the main hazard, but weather officials said large hail is also possible.

NWS Meteorologist David Shallenberger said that once the storms are over, the weather will get a bit more mild.

“The thing we’ll be seeing most is a more comfortable forecast,” Shallenberger said. “Today we’re really hot, muggy and unstable. But tomorrow those dew-points will go down. And while we’ll still have highs in the low 80s, it’ll feel much more comfortable.”

Wednesday is forecast with a high of 91 degrees, then dropping down to 64 degrees at night with a projected high of 81 on Thursday.
