A 49-year-old New Castle man died and a teen was seriously hurt after the motorcycle they were on was hit by an SUV in Lawrence County on Saturday, according to state police.

State police identified the man as Travis J. Bintrim. The 14-year-old male passenger was not identified.

State police said the collision happened just before 8 p.m. on Harlansburg Road west of Grange Hall Road in Scott Township.

According to state police, Gail Newtzie, 76, of New Castle was traveling west in a Nissan Rogue on Harlansburg Road when for unknown reasons she veered into the opposite lane and hit Bintrim’s Harley-Davidson, throwing him and the teen from it.

While the boy was wearing a helmet, state police said Bintrim was not. Bintrim was taken to UPMC Jameson Hospital in New Castle, where he died.

The boy suffered a suspected serious injury, but state police said he was in stable condition and taken by helicopter to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Newtzie and a passenger in her vehicle, Catherine T. Jennings, 72, of New Castle, suffered minor injuries and were taken to UPMC Jameson.

State police are investigating.
