A 79-year-old woman was fatally injured when she was struck by a vehicle while crossing Route 19 on Wednesday evening in Peters Township, Washington County.
Peters Township police said Thursday morning they were not releasing the name of the woman until family members have been properly notified.
The crash occurred at about 7:30 p.m. in the 2800 block of Route 19, a Washington County 911 dispatcher said.
Police said the woman was struck by a northbound vehicle as she was crossing the road at an entrance to the parking lot of Pizzaz and Simmons Farm market.
The woman’s 43-year-old daughter, who was walking with her, wasn’t struck, police said.
The vehicle’s driver, a 73-year-old man, remained at the scene.
Police said motorists in another vehicle stopped to help shortly before Peters medics arrived to begin life-saving efforts.
Local firefighters also provided medical care before the woman was taken to St. Clair Hospital in Mt. Lebanon, Allegheny County, where she died of her injuries, police said.
Police said the driver was not impaired.
“The preliminary investigation appears to show that this is a tragic accident and, at this time, no fault has been determined,” police stated.
