Driver’s skills tests, including motorcycle skills tests, resumed Tuesday at PennDOT Driver License Centers.

The tests had been suspended in March as stay-at-home orders went into effect during the early stages of the covid-19 emergency.

PennDOT says the skills test has been modified to reduce potential exposure of PennDOT staff and customers during the testing process.

The safety measures being taken include having PennDOT staff remain outside the vehicle during the entire skills test. All applicants and accompanying drivers must wear face masks during testing.

Applicants in yellow phase counties will be screened beforehand. If the applicant shows any covid-19 symptoms, the test will not be given. There will be no screening for customers in green counties. Allegheny and Westmoreland are scheduled to move into the green phase on Friday.

Examiners will be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment including masks, gloves and eye protection during the exam. They will also use iPads during testing which will be routinely disinfected using wipes or spray sanitizer.

Anyone whose driver’s test was canceled will be given priority in rescheduling tests by contacting the PennDOT Driver and Vehicle Services Call Center at 717-412-5300.

All others will be able to schedule a skills test in the appointment system beginning June 20.
