A former Indiana Area School District teacher was arrested Thursday on charges he sexually assaulted a teenager on multiple occasions beginning in 2009.

Indiana Borough Police Chief Justin Schawl said officers, working with the district attorney’s office, filed charges of corruption of minors, indecent assault on a person under 16 years old and statutory sexual assault against Patrick J. McKee, 60, of Indiana.

McKee, who retired as an elementary teacher in June, was ordered held in the county jail after failing to post $150,000 bond pending a preliminary hearing Jan. 21.

Schawl said McKee met the teen several years ago at a youth sports function in the borough “and over the course of several months McKee began to groom the victim and invite them back to his residence on multiple occasions.”

Police said the teen is now an adult.

Schawl said the teen initially reported the activity, which spanned several months, to the school district and school officials relayed its information to police. He said the district has cooperated in the investigation.

The district reported McKee retired at the conclusion of the 2019-20 school year when he was a teacher at Horace Mann Elementary School.

According to court dockets, McKee has no prior criminal record in Pennsylvania. McKee did not have an attorney listed in court records.

Schawl said anyone who can assist “identifying further incidents of child abuse or sexual assault” can call police at 724-349-2121 or the district attorney’s office.
