A 36-year-old Somerset County accused of shooting another woman during an argument surrendered early Thursday after a five-hour standoff woman with police.
Shirley M. Owens, 36, of Friedens, was arraigned on multiple charges, including attempted homicide, aggravated assault, illegal possession of a firearm, possessing instruments of crime and reckless endangerment. She was ordered jailed after failing to post $200,000 bond set by District Judge William Seger.
Troopers said they were called to 341 Mull Road in Jenner Township for a report of a person shot just before 8 p.m. Wednesday. The call was disconnected, police said, but they received a second call that indicated an injured woman was lying along the road with a gunshot wound.
When troopers arrived, police said, Owens retreated into the residence. Troopers said she initially refused to surrender, then “barricaded herself” inside.
The shooting victim, who was not identified, was taken to an undisclosed area hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound. Her condition was not immediately available.
