Teenager in Uniontown charged as adult after refusing to drop knife, troopers say

A Fayette County teenager was charged as an adult Monday with six counts of aggravated assault and related charges after state police say they were called to an apartment complex in Uniontown to break up a street fight and she refused to surrender a knife to police.
Jamayla Jones, 16, had to be subdued with a Taser during the afternoon incident in the parking lot at 49 Pershing Court, according to Trooper Thomas Lizik.
Lizik said in court documents that, when authorities arrived to break up “a large street fight,” witnesses reported Jones was hiding a knife behind her back and she ignored commands to drop the weapon.
Police allege that Cpl. D.J. DeWitt deployed his Taser when “(Jones) advanced on the troopers holding a large knife.”
Jones was arraigned on six counts each of aggravated and simple assault, three counts of resisting arrest and single counts of disorderly conduct and harassment. She was released from custody Tuesday after posting $75,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 15.
