Tapas Talks second event of the season was held on April 25 at the Allegheny Country Club’s grand ballroom featuring Don Evans, the CEO and president of the Energy Innovation Center of Pittsburgh.
According to Evans, EIC is expanding the meaning of energy and finding that we can generate an impact in lives and communities that is more exciting and powerful than the first law of thermodynamics.
More than 120 series subscribers were energized by Evan’s presentation, “Energy Innovations: Creating much more than Electricity.” The presentation started with a historical background regarding the transformation of the former Connelley Trade School, built in 1930 in the Hill District neighborhood of Pittsburgh, to the current EIC.
The Energy Innovation Center is a Pittsburgh-based, not-for-profit organization with a mission to engage corporate and community leaders, align workforce development and education, develop and demonstrate technology, and incubate businesses to support emerging clean and sustainable energy markets. The EIC is owned and operated by the Pittsburgh Gateways Corporation.
Evans has spent the majority of his career in customer-facing and solutions-focused roles and feels he has found his calling, applying his experience to further the mission of Pittsburgh Gateways in Pittsburgh and throughout Western Pennsylvania.
In addition to Evans’ presentation, guests were treated to a delicious tapas buffet before the talk and an ice cream dessert bar afterward. With the mission of the organization to inspire, inform, connect, and give back to the Sewickley community, Tapas Talks creates a venue to learn about and celebrate the achievements of accomplished neighbors in Sewickley.
The event was made possible by donations from sponsors including Heritage Valley Health System, Wilpen Hall, First National Bank, Fermata Brewing Company, Pittsburgh Botanic Garden, Pittsburgh Paws Pet Resort, The Sewickley Public Library and Howard Hanna. Other sponsors include Michael J. Hatcher/Holly Hampe, Fran Merryman and Marci McClintic-Coates. Because of these donations as well as individual donations through Friends of the Talk, Tapas Talks was able to give honorariums to the speakers.
The speaker donated his honorarium to the Coraopolis Community Development Fund. This corporation works towards the equitable growth and revitalization of Coraopolis by providing residents with tools to lead to self-sufficiency, continuing to grow the town’s business district and improving the overall quality of life in the community.
