A student-run greenhouse at Sewickley Academy is a little greener thanks to the recent generosity of an alumnus.

Bob Jones (’61) read a recent TribLive Sewickley Herald article about Sewickley Academy junior Emma Ehan and her efforts to make over and spruce up the once defunct greenhouse at the Senior School.

Ehan spent several months rejuvenating the space that was being used as a storage closet into a working greenhouse.

Jones visited Ehan at the greenhouse on Feb. 6 and donated multiple plants.

“Emma is excited to add them to the space,” said Camryn Miller, marketing and branding specialist at Sewickley Academy.

Ehan has a green thumb, and, outside of school, she volunteers as an intern in the Youth Climate Advocacy Commission at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens.

The greenhouse is near the lunchroom, and passersby can easily view the plants and trees, including an avocado tree.

Miller credited the press with helping to connect Jones and Ehan.

“It’s a fun full-circle moment,” Miller said. “He’s been working with Emma Ehan on this since seeing the article on her.”
