Hollow Oak Land Trust to issue permits next month for hunting on conservation areas

The Hollow Oak Land Trust plans to begin issuing permits on Aug. 17 for deer hunting in conservation areas, the non-profit organization announced.
The permits are being issued by appointment only while supplies last. Hunters can sign-up for an appointment to get a license by sending an email to: info@hollowoak.org.
The licenses will be distributed at Robin Hill Park, 949 Thorn Run Road in Moon.
Hunters must bring their state-issued hunting license, a driver’s license and the license plate number of their vehicle when they pick up their permits.
Permits will be issued for archery hunting only in the Kenmawr and Trout Run conservation areas. Archers and hunters using firearms will be permitted in the Montour Woods and Fifer’s Field conservation areas.
Only deer can be hunted in conservation areas and no hunting is permitted on Sundays.
Hunters can use tree stands but must sign a waiver to do so. Tree stand also must have a covering to protect the trees being used.
Participants also are urged to protect other wildlife and vegetation and to report any problems they encounter while hunting in the conservation areas.
The Hollow Oak Land Trust was founded in 1991 to protect green space in the Pittsburgh Airport corridor.
The organization owns five conservation areas containing more than 550 acres in the municipalities of Moon, Kennedy, Franklin Park, North Fayette and Hopewell.
Hollow Oak also owns two conservation easements for the 90-acre Sahli Nature Park in Chippewa, Beaver County.
The Trust’s conservation areas were established to protect wildlife habitats including mature forests, steep slopes, floodplains, wetlands, and meadows.
The conservation areas are open to the public but motorized vehicles are not permitted on the land.
