Shaler Area High School senior Candace Kozej was named a Commended Student in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program.

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise.

Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2023 competition by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

This year, Candace is taking AP calculus BC, AP biology, and AP physics as part of her course load and is a member of the Shaler Area High School volleyball and lacrosse teams. Outside of school, she also works at Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream. Candace plans to continue her academic career and pursue a degree in biomedical sciences at Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, Duke or UNC.

Shaler Area High School graduates Jordan Clark and Noah Gabriel recently began their first semester at Marietta College. Clark is majoring in accounting and Gabriel is majoring in sports medicine.

Amanda Nord graduated from James Madison University in August with a degree in media arts and design.
