Twenty-three Shaler Area High School students have been recognized as AP Scholars.

Shaler Area students recognized as AP Scholars

Shaler Area High School had 23 students recognized as AP Scholars in the 2020-21 school year. The students completed three or more AP exams with scores of 3 or higher.

Of the students recognized, 16 are current Shaler Area seniors and seven graduated in the Class of 2021. The students were recognized with the following honors:

AP Scholar with Distinction

Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

AP Scholar with Honor

Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.

Shaler Area student raises $900 for Project HOPE

Inspired by a middle school class, one Shaler Area student set out to make a difference.

Over the summer, Kaysia Chelli, a current freshman, raised $900 through a community bake sale to benefit Project HOPE, a global health and humanitarian organization that has been supporting covid-19 relief efforts.

Last spring, Chelli envisioned the project during her Innovations class at Shaler Area Middle School. Innovations is a full-year, eighth-grade course, which provides students with opportunities to engage in solving real-world problems through project-based learning. Chelli met with Shaler North Hills Library staff to coordinate a bake sale to take place during the library’s Annual Car Cruise in August. She spent the summer recruiting volunteers and donations to turn her vision into a reality with great success.
