Forward Township warehouse fire under investigation
A marina warehouse fire near the Monongahela River Bridge in Forward Township is under investigation.
Fire crews were called to the area of Liggett Avenue and Edsel Lane just after 1 a.m. Friday morning, arriving to find a large one-story warehouse with fire coming from the roof.
Gallatin Sunnyside VFD officials said it took roughly five hours to fully extinguish the fire and clear the scenes. Fire crews from eight other departments also responded to the call.
The property is the former home of McCrossin’s Landing, a marina and pub.
It opened in 2021, but was only in business for a year before receiving a cease-and-desist letter from railroad company CSX saying that owner Sam McCrossin was not permitted to use the access road onto his property, which is the only way in.
“I was just starting to work at opening the place again,” McCrossin told TribLive on Saturday morning.
A federal court case between McCrossin and CNX over access to the property is ongoing.
The fire is under investigation by the Allegeny County Fire Marshal, Gallatin officials said.
