Part of the Racer’s frame can be seen sitting cement blocks at Kennywood on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.

The photo of part of the Kennywood Racer roller coaster framework resting on what appears to be a piece of wood set off-center atop two cement blocks that spurred closure of the ride Wednesday depicted a non-structural support, state officials said.

The ride will reopen Thursday, Palace Entertainment spokesperson Lynsey Winters said.

Work crews made what Winters called a a non-structural enhancement. She did not provide specific details on the work.

A quality inspector from the state Department of Agriculture, which oversees amusement parks and rides, was at the park this week.

Agriculture spokeswoman Shannon Powers said the support in the photo, which was sent to her department Monday, was not a primary structural support, and the inspector recommended minor modifications, clearing the ride for operation.
