The first issue of the new weekly Bethel Park Journal hit mailboxes today.
The covid-19 pandemic has upended our way of life. It also has highlighted the importance of local news, not only as a reprieve from the weight of national news, but because it’s more vital than ever for residents to know what is going on in their communities and in their school districts.
At a time when local newspapers are cutting back or closing altogether, Trib Total Media is proud to bring a new, hyper-local product to the South Hills.
The Bethel Park Journal will be filled each week with Bethel Park municipal and school district news, sports, real estate, features on your neighbors and more.
“It has been said that journalism is the first draft of history. There has never been a more critical time to tell the news than right now, and we’re proud to bring the people of Bethel Park a new option each week in print and online daily,” said Trib Total Media president and CEO Jennifer Bertetto.
Bringing this publication to the Bethel Park community is also about supporting local businesses.
In 2020 and 2021, Trib Total Media’s Shop Local Marketing Grant matched up to $1 million in advertising to assist locally owned businesses in the region.
“We launched the Shop Local Marketing Grant, unsure if businesses would be ready for it. To date, we have had nearly 500 successful applications and granted more than $2.5 million in funding,” Trib Total Media chief revenue officer Matt Miller said. “Starting a new print publication amid a pandemic is not for the faint of heart. Our grant program showed us local businesses are persevering, though, and we must fight on as well.”
In addition to the print edition, bethelparkjournal.com joins the Neighborhood News Network family of MeSearch websites.
The site provides all of the great community news in the weekly print product and more. It adds community-contributed content from trusted sources, all curated to individual readers using an artificial intelligence algorithm.
School districts, nonprofits and community organizations can become Trusted Contributors and share content as much as they would like. In addition, you and your neighbors are welcome to add content as Community Contributors. If you’ve got photos, milestones or news to share, simply click the “Post Story” button at the top right of the page to get started. It’s that simple.
