A man was transferred to the hospital early Friday morning after his mobile home caught fire.

The fire was reported just before 6 a.m. on the 300 block of Inwood Court in West Deer Township. When emergency crews arrived, they found that the man living in the home had escaped through a small window, said Luke Raynovich, chief of West Deer Fire Department 1.

The man’s identity was not released.

Crews found a small dog had been trapped inside the home and died during the fire. The mobile home was declared a complete loss.

Raynovich said crews had the fire under control in 20 minutes. He said the homeowner had been working on the house and fire fighters had to make sure building materials wouldn’t catch again. They also found cars parts in the home.

“It was a lot of salvaging and overhaul. There was a lot of smoldering stuff inside,” Raynovich said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Allegheny County Fire Marshal.
