An Oakmont man is accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl multiple times before raping her late last year.
Allegheny Township police charged Jeffrey Thomas McMeekin, 60, of California Avenue on Thursday with one count of rape, three counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, two counts of aggravated indecent assault and more than a dozen counts of indecent assault.
In a criminal complaint, police said tests found a DNA match with McMeekin on the girl’s clothing.
McMeekin was denied bond when he was arraigned Friday before District Judge Cheryl Peck Yakopec and was sent to the Westmoreland County jail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 23.
“What the magistrate did with the bond is actually ludicrous, and it’s unconstitutional,” said McMeekin’s attorney, Michael J. DeRiso. “My guy has no record. What the magistrate did is just ridiculous.”
DeRiso said the allegations against McMeekin read like a story over a period of time.
“There’s more to it,” he said. “When this case proceeds to trial, which it will, we will then be able to present our other side, his side.”
In a criminal complaint against McMeekin, police said the alleged victim was interviewed Dec. 30. She was 17 and 18 when the incidents she recounted happened in November and December in multiple locations in multiple counties, and Allegheny was one of them, the complaint says.
According to the complaint, the girl told police the first of five incidents happened while she was on a trip that included McMeekin in late November when McMeekin touched her inappropriately.
The girl told police McMeekin later apologized for making her feel bad.
The girl told police another incident occurred when McMeekin tried to touch her, but she blocked him with her hands, the complaint says.
Later during that encounter, the girl told police, McMeekin sexually assaulted her, authorities say.
According to the complaint, the girl said a third incident occurred in December, when McMeekin inappropriately touched her and then attempted again to do so.
The criminal complaint alleges a fourth incident occurred in mid-December in which McMeekin is accused of sexual assault.
According to the complaint, the final incident, in late December, involved rape.
Police interviewed one of the girl’s relatives, who confronted McMeekin upon learning what allegedly happened. According to the complaint, the woman said McMeekin told her he found the girl attractive and admitted waiting until she turned 18 to have sex with her.
Police said the girl’s clothing was taken for evidence Dec. 30, and police obtained a DNA sample from McMeekin with his attorney present Jan. 25. Police said the state police report matching DNA to McMeekin was received May 14.
