Apollo Mayor Cindee Virostek appointed borough police Officer Dave Romagnoli this week as acting officer in charge.

Apollo police Chief Jarred Kier submitted his resignation last month effective Aug. 15 to take a full-time patrolman’s job in Washington Township.

Apollo is in need of more police officers. There are only two part-time officers, including Romagnoli, on the borough police force. State police provide additional coverage.

Virostek said the borough is accepting applications for a full-time and part-time police officers, an ordinance officer and a meter enforcement officer. To apply for the positions, candidates can visit Apollo’s website or call the borough office at 724-478-4201.

Borough council will vote to confirm Romagnoli’s appointment during their regular meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, according to Dr. John Kautz, council president. The meeting will be held at the Apollo Borough Municipal office located at 616 First Street.
