An Arnold man who previously was convicted for assault and carrying a gun without a license was ordered to stand trial on charges he punched a woman in the face, pushed her to the ground and stomped on her head.

Malachi Supreme Hayes, 25, of the 1200 block of Kenneth Avenue, was charged April 12 by Arnold police with a felony count of aggravated assault along with counts of simple assault and harassment.

District Judge Frank J. Pallone Jr. ordered Hayes to stand trial on the charges following a June 1 preliminary hearing, according to court records.

Hayes was being held in the Westmoreland County jail in lieu of a $25,000 cash bond and is scheduled for formal arraignment Aug. 2, according to court records.

According to Hayes’ arrest papers, Allegheny Valley Hospital notified Arnold police after a woman was brought in for treatment of a broken jaw she suffered during an assault.

Police said the left side of the woman’s jaw was damaged and a number of her teeth were dislodged.

She told police she believed Hayes might have lured her to his home with the intention of assaulting or killing her because he was angry about a previous domestic incident in which they were involved, the complaint said.

The woman told police he punched her in the face several times, pushed her down and then began stomping on her face while wearing shoes, authorities said.

In March 2021, Hayes pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of simple assault and was sentenced to 23 months in jail. He was arrested by New Kensington police in October 2018 on charges that he threatened a woman with a gun.

Court records show he pleaded guilty to simple assault and was sentenced to up to 23 months in jail, with credit for time served.

In August 2021, New Kensington police accused Hayes of threatening a group of people with a firearm and charged him with a felony count of carrying a firearm without a license.

He pleaded guilty to the charge June 22 in Westmoreland County Court and was sentenced to one to two years in jail. He was credited for time served and paroled June 30, court records show.

Hayes was arrested on the gun charge after a man flagged down an Arnold police officer and reported that a man living in the 1100 block of Fifth Avenue was brandishing a firearm and pointing it at a group of people.

Police said a man they later identified as Hayes ran from police when they arrived but was apprehended. A pistol was found nearby, and video from a security camera showed Hayes discarding the weapon in bushes, according to police.
