A boil water notice that was issued for the Pittsburgh Mills mall complex in Frazer earlier this week has been lifted, according to an official with the Fawn-Frazer Joint Water Authority.

“The boil water notice has been lifted and all businesses have been notified,” Authority Chairman Ed Adams said Wednesday.

The boil water notice was issued Monday after authority officials said a vehicle struck a hydrant behind the former Best Buy store in the mall complex. The impact ruptured the underground pipe connected to the hydrant and caused the pipe to leak.

Adams said the authority would be checking to see if there are any surveillance cameras in the area to see if they can figure out who struck the hydrant.

The boil water notice applied to water used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and preparing food.

The only water customers that were affected were those in the Mills mall complex.

Adams said the authority is required by law to issue a boil water notice anytime pressure is lost on a water main. To isolate the break, repair crews had to close off an 18-inch valve feeding the mall. Once the break was further isolated, the water system pressure was restored.

Adams had said the notice could be lifted as early as Wednesday if all proper procedures were followed. The authority on Monday said it would flush the system and take samples to ensure the water was safe before lifting the notice.
