The Bonfire shortcut detour in Allegheny Township will close Monday, Nov. 21 for most of the day to allow crews to make repairs to areas along White Cloud Road.

The well-traveled Bonfire Shortcut detour along White Cloud Road in Allegheny Township will close most of the day Monday.

The road is scheduled to be closed from 7 a.m. up until 5 p.m.

The Bonfire Shortcut, which is township-owned, has become a detour route during major construction of Route 356. As a result, it has had increased traffic over the past year. Monday’s closing will allow for crews to make temporary improvements to get the road through the winter.

Ligonier Construction is making the repairs as part of PennDot’s Route 356 project.

Crews will work on surface repairs and backfilling. Township Supervisor James Morabito said the closure should not extend more than one day.

About 11,000 motorists use Route 356 daily, according to PennDOT. Portions of Route 356 reopened in both directions to motorists Tuesday.

The closures are the result of a $15.9 million project that PennDOT began in 2020.

The completion date is estimated for next November. Route 356 is expected to remain open until construction resumes around April 3.
