Brackenridge woman accused of trying to break through bedroom door with knife to get to man inside

A Brackenridge woman is accused of trying to break through a bedroom door with a kitchen knife so she could stab a man after he threatened to report her to child protective services.
Haley Rain Rakes, 22, of the 1000 block of Broadview Boulevard was charged with a felony count of aggravated assault and counts of simple assault and harassment.
She was released from custody on a nonmonatary bond to await a preliminary hearing Nov. 1 before District Judge Carolyn Bengel.
Tarentum police wrote in a criminal complaint that officers responding to a call for a domestic dispute at Rakes’ home shortly before 11:30 p.m. Oct. 12 arrived as the man was leaving her apartment with two young children.
He told police that he and Rakes were both drinking that night and began arguing. He said the dispute escalated when he threatened to report Rakes to Allegheny County Children, Youth and Family Services and she responded by throwing a cup at him and punching him in the head about 10 times, the complaint said.
The man told police that Rakes then grabbed a knife from the kitchen and that they struggled over it before he was able to get away from her and lock himself in a bedroom, the complaint said.
Rakes responded by using the knife to try to break through the door, the complaint said.
Police said they found the blade of the knife lodged in the door and the plastic handle on the floor.
The man told police he was able to flee from the apartment but returned to retrieve the children.
When he returned, the complaint said, Rakes used the knife to cut her own arm and told him she was going to tell police that he did it.
Police said the man was taken to a hospital for treatment of cuts to his hand and wrist and bruises on his face and head.
Rakes was arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment before being released back to police, who transported her to the Allegheny County Jail to await arraignment on the charges, the complaint said.
A family member took custody of the children, police said.
