Cheswick Community Day returns to offer food, fellowship, music and fun

Cheswick Community Day has returned.
The free daylong festival welcomed visitors to Rachel Carson Park after being on hiatus since 2014. Strawberry Days replaced it for years, but that event was canceled the past two years over covid-19 pandemic concerns.
The ever-changing covid-related restrictions didn’t sway organizers this year, who were determined the event would go forward. It is sponsored by the Cheswick Recreation Board.
“We said we would go for it — it’s an outdoor event,” recreation board member Shawna Almes said. “We’re excited to welcome everyone.”
Crowds gathered under sunny skies and enjoyed food, fellowship and live music from a popular oldies band, American Pie.
“There’s a great sense of community here,” former Cheswick resident Samantha Caruthers said. “Cheswick has great neighbors, and we always go to Glen’s for custard, too.”
Glen’s Custard’s Glenwiches were available, along with pulled pork, barbecue, pepperoni rolls and numerous desserts.
All proceeds benefited the borough’s recreation board.
The event began with a 9/11 tribute presented by borough officials.
Springdale Public Library provided a free craft booth for kids. Also offered were face painting and games, including cornhole.
