Cheswick Council is expected to appoint a new council member and board representative to the recently formed Allegheny Valley Regional Police Department.

Incumbent councilman Michael Girardi won two seats in the Nov. 5 election, one with a four-year term and another with a two-year term.

Girardi is expected to choose which seat he will take when council holds its reorganization meeting on Jan. 6, according to Council President Paul Jack. Council will make the appointment to fill the other seat sometime in January, Jack said.

Residents interested in the position should submit a letter to the borough by Jan. 10.

Cheswick Councilwoman Kathy Gillard is resigning Dec. 31 as one of two borough representatives on the board of the Allegheny Valley Regional Police Department.

Springdale Township and Cheswick merged their police departments in May to create the new police department.

Each municipality has two representatives on the board and the position is open to council members and the residents.

Residents interested in the police board appointment should send a letter of interest with their background and resume by Dec. 11, according to Jack. Borough council will make the appointment sometime in December or January, he said.

Applications for both position can be sent to Cheswick borough, 220 South Atlantic Ave., PO Box 235, Cheswick, PA 15024.
