A crack in the exterior brick of a medical building caused by a car crash at the intersection of Saxonburg and Freeport roads in Harrison on Saturday afternoon, July 8, 2023.

A driver rear-ended a vehicle at the intersection of Saxonburg and Freeport roads in Harrison on Saturday afternoon, and then careened into a nearby building, causing minor structural damage, according to Harrison police.

The driver of the Chevrolet Impala was alert but taken to nearby Allegheny Valley Hospital, said Harrison Police Sgt. Justin Bouch, who responded to the scene. No details were provided on the identity of the driver.

Two passengers of a Honda that was hit were unharmed, Bouch said.

Bouch said the crash occurred around 2:50 p.m. It caused significant damage to the Impala, totaling the vehicle and cratering its front end. The car’s driver-side airbag was deployed and the left headlight flew off the vehicle.

Both the Honda and Impala needed to be towed.

Bouch said the crash caused minor structural damage to the entrance of a small medical facility located on Freeport Road, directly across the street of the entrance to Mt. Airy Cemetery.

A crack measuring about 3 feet long was visible in the exterior brick of the building.

Bouch said it was unclear how fast the Impala was traveling at the time of the crash.
