East Vandergrift officials launch new Food Truck Friday event
A new food truck event is rolling into East Vandergrift.
Food Truck Friday is the latest community event sponsored by the East Vandergrift Community Foundation.
The monthly gathering encompasses eating, drinking and socializing with a street-fair vibe.
It will take place the second Friday of each month, May through October. The festival hours each month are 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Organizers have booked eight food trucks for the inaugural gathering Friday, May 12.
“Residents are really excited to see Food Truck Fridays begin,” said Karen Virostek, foundation president. “Guests will be on a culinary food tour while attending the event while visiting with friends and family and making new friends.”
Food trucks will park along Chambers Street. Scheduled to appear are Conny Creek Brewing Co., Del Vecchio’s Sausage & Fries, Casita Bonita, Kaczor Ravioli, Hot Ash Wood Fired Pizza, Little C’s Concessions, Ash & Kris Kitchen and Wok on Wheels.
Offerings will include Italian, Puerto Rican, Asian and American fare, with menu items featuring Italian sausage, pizza, chicken, funnel cakes, fresh-cut fries, ravioli, specialty sandwiches and more.
Live music will include Oui Duet.
There will be a large tent with tables available.
Those attending are asked to bring their own lawn chairs.
“The foundation goal for this event is to just bring back activities to the borough,” Virostek said. “East Vandergrift was a vibrant community and will be once again.”
Conny Creek Brewing Co. co-owner and brewmaster Lee Layton expanded his beer truck event schedule to reach more folks who have yet to visit the two brewery locations in Allegheny Township and Saxonburg.
“People get excited about new small-town events, and this has the potential to be well-organized,” Layton said.
Look for a summer ale, premium lager, IPA and other rotating beers, he said.
Tommy Scanga of Del Vecchio’s Sausage & Fries grew up in nearby Vandergrift and said this event will bring the crowds.
“East Vandergrift has such a great community, and I know people are really excited,” Scanga said. “They’re going to turn out for it, and we’re gonna have a blast. We love supporting East Vandergrift.”
“Come join the fun in the small town with a big heart,” Virostek said.
