The family of a man who has been missing since mid-November has taken to social media and law enforcement to find out if he is safe.

David Ellefson, 37, was last seen Nov. 14, said his wife, Heidi Ellefson. She said he had met their children and his grandmother at Dave and Busters in Homestead that day. His mother-in-law picked up the children and took them to their Plum home.

He was due to return to his grandmother’s house in Chippewa Township – but he never did.

Heidi Ellefson, 41, said they had recently separated after she asked for a divorce, and that he had been staying at his grandmother’s home in Chippewa. She said that after she brought up her desire for a divorce on Sept. 9, David Ellefson attacked her in their home. He was charged with simple assault, harassment and unlawful restraint.

Heidi Ellefson said in a criminal complaint filed against her husband by Plum police that he left the house with a handgun and threatened suicide after he attacked her.

David Ellefson posted a $15,000 bail Sept. 27. He is scheduled to appear before Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas Judge Alexander Bicket on Dec. 13.

His attorney, Steven C. Townsend, said he has not heard from or seen him since Nov. 2, when David Ellefson responded to an email.

A phone number listed for David Ellefson went to a recorded message indicating the number has changed, disconnected, or is no longer in service.

A Chippewa police officer said the department entered his information into the National Crime Information Center after getting no leads on his whereabouts.

The officer said his vehicle’s license plate — HBN7151 — was last scanned in Monroeville on Nov. 18.

Heidi Ellefson and some of her family members have taken to Facebook to help locate him. The post describes her husband as 6 feet 4 inches tall with a reddish brown goatee.

The post said he drives a silver Chevrolet Cruz with black wheels and a logo on it.

Heidi Ellefson said that no matter how bad things got between them, she still worries about his safety.

If she had the chance to tell her husband of 10 years one thing, it would be this: “He is missed and cared about. We do want him here.”

Anyone with information on David Ellefson’s whereabouts is encouraged to call Chippewa police at 724-843-8227.
